The Status of Summer
What a strange seasone we're having:
April was pierced by warm sunbeanms full of the promise of summer.
May was cold (slept with socks on).
June's heatwave was intense: sucking on ice cubes and standing naked in front of the humming fans.
July is turning out to be temperamental, although, I'm enjoying the constant breeze that's like a fresh underscore.
Saw Gus Van Sant's Last Days and immediately read the Kurt Cobain biography that had been sitting on Nick's bedside table, ever since we returned from Dublin last fall. Mentally regressed to when I was younger... Going through a bit of a grunge phase now - not combing my hair to go to work and wearing Converse most of the time. And listening to a lot of Frusciante, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, with a bit of White Stripes and Green Day thrown in.
Bought a new DVD to add to the collection: Wayne Wang's Smoke. Lou Reed's in it!
Went shopping in Como on Saturday. Didn't run into George (Clooney) but bought an emergency umbrella from a Senegalese street vendor. It was pouring. Rain by the bucketload. It was raining so much, you got wet just from the water hitting the ground so hard and bouncing off the pavement!
We found shelter in a bar, where we waited for the thunderstorm to pass. We ordered caffé shekerato. It's our new thing. Iced espresso in a shaker with Bailyes or Amaretto.
Yumm!
